STEM-faculty monthly workshops

A series of monthly workshops were created to facilitate the development of STEM-science and active learning activities to faculty members. These meetings were initiated to strengthen the STEM-science community at UVG

Faculty training workshops in STEM

University del valle (UVG) experts in STEM science led training-workshops aimed at developing STEM science active learning activities at UVG. This second series of workshops, lasting three half-days, involved the modeling, analysis and design of teaching strategies used in STEM-classrooms. Workshops were multi-disciplinary involving professors from the faculties of Science and Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering.

July STEM Program for Teacher Professional Development

Two professional development opportunities for middle and high school teachers were offered in the month of July. The topics of the two webinars were: "Designing STEM lessons and projects" and "Computer Programing to Develop Computational Thinking". A total of 40 teachers participated

Potencia-T Graduandos: STEM Rally

This event took place on July 18th within UVG’s Central Campus. It was a competition for high school teams were they had to solve 12 challenges of different STEM fields. The teams were formed randomly with students from different schools and interests. About 120 students participated in the rally.

Engineering Workshops

During the month of August three engineering workshops were offered to high school students. In the Civil Engineering workshop, they learned about structures and types of materials. In the Food Sciences workshop, they learned how to make different types of ice cream and the chemical reactions during the process. The Mechanics engineering workshop introduced them to the engineering design process of building a vehicle. About 60 students participated.

Potencia-T Niñas: Women can change the world

On August 28th Middle and High school girls participated in a conference about gender and career choice. Afterwards they participated in a "world café" and talked with UVG female role models in STEM careers. 58 girls attended to the event.
